SAMIRA BRAHMIA

‘I believe in music because it allows me to believe in the human being, and I am convinced that it can save the world’ - Samira Brahmia

For more than 10 years in the world music scene, Samira Brahmia has made a name for herself with her voice and her quietly strong personality.  But with her appearance on ‘The Voice’, where she performed the song ‘Haramtou Bik Nouassi’, an Arab-Andalusian love song, Samira Brahmia has galvanised an audience on both sides of the Mediterranean. A sign of encouragement for a singer who claims her plural identity and ambitions to break aesthetic codes in order to make her art travel beyond its allotted territories. Her whole story revolves around this multiculturalism. The one who lets herself be carried away by the swing of Ella Fitzgerald, the groove of Cheikha Rimitti, the fougue of Edith Piaf, the saudade of Cesaria Evora, has as illustrious interpreters voices in which the grain, the dynamics, the texture, the class rappel those of whom it is said that guérissent l'âme.

With this second album, composed closer to her emotions, Samira Brahmia offers an opening true to her personality. Evoking the trajectories of Myriam Makeba or Cheikha Rimitti, she claims her liberties as a woman and her ethics as an artist. An album that she has imagined as a tour de canto, playing with time and sensuality, gravity and humour, weaving between Arab-Andalou, African, jazzy and pop styles. These three titles evoke the distress of African women, exile, altruism, altruism, ancestors, refugees, as well as desire and anger?

Because of her longstanding involvement in Africa and around the world, Samira Brahmia has been appointed as an ambassador for authors' rights in Africa to the European Commission to CISAC (International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers). She is also an ambassador for ONDA (Office National des Droits d'Auteur et Droits Voisins en Algérie).
