ÁLVARO URQUIJO - LOS SECRETOS - SPAIN

Álvaro Urquijo, the Guitarist, singer and composer of Los Secretos joins the Alhambra family. He plays an Alhambra Jumbo Luthier 8-strings guitar specially made for him.

Since the 80's making music

The Spanish group of pop rock music Los Secretos was born in Madrid in the 80’s. They have developed his career until now accumulating followers from different generations.

Although there have been some changes over the years, the group currently is made up of Álvaro Urquijo (vocals and guitars), Ramón Arroyo (guitars), Jesús Redondo (keyboards), Juanjo Ramos (bass) and Santi Fernández (drums).

Los Secretos in the 90’s

“Adiós tristeza”, “Cambio de planes” and the compilation “Grandes éxitos”, are considered the great hits that marked their time of greater professional success in the 90’s.

Precisely at the end of the decade of the 90’s Enrique Urquijo, Álvaro’s brother passed away. It was a hard blow that brought the publication of the tribute album "A tu lado" in 2000. A work where very close artists collaborated with the group and that somehow served as a reborn of the band.

A group with followers from several generations

Los Secretos remains active since 2002 under the leadership of Alvaro Urquijo and publishing different albums

"Los Secretos 30 años" published in 2007 is one of these works, a compilation of this long and successful career that accumulates followers from several generations.

In September 2011 the album "En este mundo raro" is released and in 2015, after two years of work, the album of versions "Algo prestado" is presented, a work where they pay tribute to the authors and songs which have inspired the musical career of this band.

A special guitar for Álvaro Urquijo

The singer and guitarist of the band has his own personality with the guitar. Twelve-strings acoustic guitars are usually a bit rough, which is why he uses reconverted 6-strings guitars. The third and fourth strings are double, probably the "weakest" strings of the guitar.

Álvaro Urquijo contacted us and Alhambra Guitars studied his proposal. After a period of research, development of several prototypes and design by the team of luthiers, two guitars were built with these characteristics, in which the fundamental difference between both resided in the finish, one shine finish and another matt finish.

Álvaro visited our facilities in Muro de Alcoy and finally chose the guitar with  matt finish. This type of finish provides less weight to the top, which favors its vibration with the consequent increase in sound power.
