SABINA'S GUITAR: The Creation of a Musical Masterpiece
This story seeks to immortalize the construction of Sabina's new guitar, and what better way to do it than through the titles of his compositions.
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER (1985):
Alhambra guitars have been faithful companions throughout Sabina's prolific musical career. Every strum, every chord, has contributed to the forging of his legacy. They are loyal accomplices who have traveled untold distances. Narrow rosewood CTW guitars, like the 5P CT, or cypress, like the 7F CT, have been an integral part of his artistic journey. The 5P CT continues to resonate with the same power since 2000, when it fell into the hands of the musical genius.
WITH YOU (1996):
At the end of 2022, we were able to contact Joaquin's team to inform them that Alhambra Guitarras would like to create a custom instrument for the maestro as a tribute to his career. Our luthier, Javier Mengual, together with Sabina's technical team, developed a lighter guitar, incorporating details throughout the design that recalled the musical master's career playing with Alhambra. For example, the design of the new guitar's headstock is a tribute to his mythical guitar, the 5P CT, in honor of his faithful traveling companion.
AND WE GOT THE TEN (1992):
Our luthier team, led by Javier Mengual, worked tirelessly to achieve a personal and exclusive instrument for Sabina:
- The idea was conceived to incorporate her iconic bowler in marquetry and rosette, creating contrast between black and white. The bowler hat was also integrated into the union of the sides.
- A wink to his alma club, Atlético de Madrid, was sought in the profiles, playing a role in the design.
- Nothing more personal than the artist's signature on the back, laser engraved and treated with ebony and rosewood powder for a darker tone.
- Hand-signed by the master luthier on the inside label. Two guitars were developed for the occasion, to find two different timbres for Sabina to choose from, both were designed with the same motifs, but the woods of the sides and backs were different, one was cocobolo and the other was Spanish Cypress.
LET'S SAY I'M TALKING ABOUT... (1980):
Let's delve into the characteristics of the guitar. With top quality finishes and the best woods selected from its origin, this Alhambra guitar has Spanish cypress sides and back, in tune with the artist's roots. Honduran cedar neck and white ebony fingerboard, seeking maximum sustainability through this noble wood.
THUS I AM WITHOUT YOU (1987):
The Alhambra guitar came into Sabina's hands, and in his gaze, like that of a child, we saw that our instrument would become his new traveling companion.
AGAINST ALL ODDS (2023):
We had the pleasure of enjoying his music again on stages all over the world during the amazing 2023 tour. Seeing Sabina with his new Alhambra is our greatest gift - thank you, maestro!
